Floral Splendor: King Kamehameha Parade Blooms in Honolulu

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The 108th annual King Kamehameha Floral Parade decked out the streets of Honolulu in honor of the esteemed ruler.

The procession included marching bands, floral-decorated floats, and pa’u riders who journeyed from ‘Iolani Palace to Waikiki.

Residents and visitors observed the floral spectacle that honored the king who united the islands over 200 years ago.

“I wanted to bring my daughter down to see all the horses and the dancers and learn a little about Hawaiian culture,” said spectator Russell Ryan.

The parade’s happening reminded the audience of the aloha spirit, much to crowd member Lori-Anne Faye’s delight.

“Today is the day to get out and love everybody and be happy,” she said. “A little rain, a little sun, something for everyone.”

The parade concluded with a Hoʻolaulea at Kapiʻolani Park which came to an end in the evening. Similarly, Kauaʻi and Molokaʻi hosted royal festivities, while Maui participated in the celebrations the following weekend.
