Over the last few decades, Peer Kusmagk (50) hasn’t had a dull moment: This television personality, famous for roles like those in ‘Gute Zeiten, schlechte Zeiten’ and hosting ‘Sat.1-Frühstücksfernsehen,’ has explored various professions. Recently, his career has taken a backseat as he dedicates more time to raising his three young kids. However, staying idle isn’t part of his nature; he continues to explore new avenues.
Hosting pair alongside his initial spouse
Whether it’s acting, hosting shows on TV and radio, running a restaurant in Berlin, or collaborating with friends to record a song—Peer Kusmagk doesn’t shy away from exploring fresh avenues. Initially, alongside his wife at the time, Charlotte Karlinder (50), they gained recognition co-hosting morning television programs between 2004 and 2005. Nevertheless, intertwining professional endeavors with personal life proved challenging; soon enough, they decided to present separately because of relationship issues, which eventually led to their divorce later in 2005.
Following their tumultuous romance, Kusmagk launched a French eatery in Berlin. However, this endeavor also faced challenges. In 2010, ‘La Raclette’ suffered severe damage from a blaze triggered by an electrical fault and required extensive refurbishment. After seven years of operation, Kusmagk decided to part ways with this enterprise as he continued working for radio station 94.3 rs2; “It was quite touching,” he shared with B.Z. at the time. Yet, he added, “There are some parties where I simply cannot perform.” Running the restaurant wasn’t merely fulfilling a lifelong aspiration—it demanded constant attention like any demanding day job.
Later, during an interview with ‘Bild,’ he disclosed that his career as a restaurateur contributed to his struggle with alcoholism. “There came a point when functioning without alcohol was impossible,” he said. He consumed alcohol daily—sometimes up to three bottles of wine each night. In 2011, participating in the RTL jungle camp proved pivotal; he demonstrated strong teamwork skills and supported Sarah Knappik (38), who faced harassment from others, ultimately emerging victorious. This experience seemed crucial for moving towards sobriety: “For the first time, I realized how preoccupied my mind was with drinking whenever alcohol wasn’t accessible.” Nevertheless, it took until 2014 before he entered a rehab facility for a rigorous three-month treatment program. He described this period as “brutal yet deeply therapeutic.”
Following his 40th birthday, he found his subsequent major role: becoming a dad.
A significant milestone occurred when they decided to part ways from the restaurant – around that time, Kusmagk had also begun his own family. This process unfolded rather differently compared to most people’s experiences. He immediately connected with surfer Janni Hönscheid (34) during the nude show ‘Adam sucht Eva – Gestrandet im Paradies’. Things progressed rapidly after that point. A year later, they tied the knot. Their first child, Emil Ocean, arrived in early August 2017. Daughter Yoko joined them in July 2019, and brother Merlin completed their brood in September 2021.
However, even among his relatives, this 50-year-old individual remains unsettled. The family enjoys traveling frequently and has shifted residences numerous times. Following their stay in Mallorca, where Kusmagk took up work as a life coach, they relocated to Denmark in 2024. Once there, he dedicated a year to restoring an ancient farmhouse.
The departure from the farm is soon approaching.
The house is nearly complete, and the family appears poised to move forward once more. Recently, Janni Hönscheid shared news about selling the farm via her Instagram page. She stated that it was “likely the wisest choice” considering their evolving dynamics and several unforeseeable factors. Personal matters drove this decision. “Change is an integral part of life,” she explained, adding despite the emotional challenge, making tough choices can be necessary at times.” As for where they’ll head next remains uncertain. However, one fact stands clear: things won’t get dull anytime soon for Peer Kusmagk and his team.
