HARRIS, Mich. (WLUC) – Numerous guests are touring the recently opened conference center at the Island Resort & Casino.
The 17,000-square-feet space will play an important role helping the resort fill gaps in its calendar, according to General Manager Tony Mancilla.
Mancilla says the Island wants more of you to visit during the winter.
“You know, I think it hits a segment of our calendar every year that we need to fill, which is the middle of the winter,” Mancilla said. “You know, a lot of people don’t travel, but people do their conferences in the winter. They don’t do them in the summer, everyone’s on vacation in the summer.”
Around 150 workers and subcontractors at Gundlach Champion built the new space.
Thomas Wahlstrom, the Project Manager, expresses his gratitude for everyone’s cooperation, stating they completed the project earlier than anticipated.
“You’re not going to have a project like this that doesn’t come without issues and being able to work through those and keep it on track,” Wahlstrom said. “We were actually able to finish this project earlier than we had originally planned.”
Gundlach Champion also built a new clubhouse for Sweetgrass Golf Club.
Golf Director Nathan Rousseau says if you’re a golfer, the new clubhouse should make your experience at the course even smoother.
I believe not much has altered; rather, things have improved slightly,” Rousseau stated. “Our processes remain quite alike, but they’ve become somewhat more convenient for customers. Guests can now easily register for their golf game, collect their carts from the entrance of our facility, and proceed directly to playing.
The Island expects a lot of you to show up to the convention center and clubhouse during the Epson Tour’s Island Resort Championship next Friday.
