Governor Phil Scott plans to head to Boston for a meeting with six Canadian Premiers along with various governors from across the northeastern region.
On Friday, Scott stated that we will address concerns affecting each one of us including tourism, energy, trade, and others. He expressed hopefulness about enhancing the bond between us and our colleagues and partners.
Following testimony from Steve Wright, the president and general manager of Jay Peak Resort, who spoke to congressional representatives on Thursday regarding challenges faced by Vermont’s tourism and travel sector, the meeting was convened.
“We anticipate an extremely problematic situation with visits forecasted for this coming summer, the following winter, and into an uncertain future,” Wright stated.
Wright pointed to President Donald Trump’s tariff policies and his threats of annexing Canada as the cause of the situation.
Scott plans to head to Boston on Monday.
