If your aim is to reel in some large fish and enjoy summertime activities, head over to East Canyon State Park, conveniently situated near the Wasatch Front.
In 1962, East Canyon was designated as a state park and has since been known for offering premium angling experiences—a true paradise for those seeking excitement on the water. Besides trout, visitors can catch wipers and smallmouth bass either from land or by boat.
“It’s a good place to come and fish early morning before all the wakeboarders come out,” said angler Geoff Hamer. “In the early mornings you can get some really good fishing in.”
A filet of fun is not all that East Canyon offers. The Day Use Beach Area is a family friendly spot to make a splash, easy to get to for rest and relaxation, and to even stay a while.
East Canyon has an international dark sky designation, perfect for stargazing with two different campgrounds to set up shop.
Among all our state parks, East Canyon is near both the Wasatch Front and our pioneer past. It lies alongside the route taken by Mormon pioneers journeying towards their new homeland.
