MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. (WITN) – The fifth day of the annual tournament comes to an end with the biggest fish brought in now disqualified.
‘Southern Grace’ landed at around 7:00 p.m. carrying a 653.7-pound blue marlin, which is the largest catch of the season so far.
As stated by Big Rock authorities, the blue marlin has been ruled out because of rule number 24 related to damage.
Anglers Jacob Tingen and Taylor Britt rangled in the blue marlin, and the boat was captained by Dustin Myers.
The Level V Fabulous Fisherman’s Prize of $807,500 for the first 500-pound Blue Marlin is up for grabs once again.
The fish was snagged at 12:06 p.m., and it was brought into the boat at 4:36 p.m.
A similar situation happened on the last day of a tournament two years ago. When
‘Sensation’ was disqualified
after bringing in a 600+ blue marlin with shark bites.
Earlier today, ‘Shenandoah’ did not qualify, bringing in a blue marlin that weighed 304.6 pounds. A fish has to weigh at least 400 pounds.
Big Rock officials say 269 boats were on the water today.
Our WITN First Alert Weather Team says the conditions have been consistent over the last few days.
Conditions were rougher earlier this week, with no boats with lines on the water on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, ‘Bankwalker’ came back just before 9:00 p.m. with a 449.7-pound blue marlin.
Angler Lizzie Montague reeled in the blue marlin, and the Bankwalker was captained by her dad, Bryant Montague.
