The U.S. Department of State has released a Level 4 travel warning, indicating extreme caution, and is firmly recommending that Americans avoid traveling to Iraq altogether.
The warning highlights major safety issues such as terrorist threats, abduction dangers, armed confrontations, and civil disturbances, all of which present substantial hazards for visitors in the area.

On Wednesday, June 11, the State Department stressed, “Avoid traveling to Iraq for any purpose.”
The advisory points out terrorism, abduction, armed struggle, civil disturbances, along with the U.S. government’s restricted capacity to offer emergency assistance to Americans in Iraq as justifications for issuing this warning.
