The U.S. Department of State has released a Level 4 travel warning, indicating extreme risk, and is firmly recommending that Americans avoid traveling to Iraq altogether.
The warning highlights major safety issues such as terrorist activities, abductions, warfare, and civil disturbances, all of which present substantial dangers for visitors in the area.

The advisory points out terrorism, abduction, armed combat, civil disturbances, along with the U.S. government’s restricted capacity to offer emergency assistance to Americans in Iraq as the key factors behind this caution.
