TSA Greenlights Mobile Passport for iPhone Users at SFO Flights

Transportation Security Administration
started enforcing
Real ID requirements
For local travelers at airports throughout the nation, those with non-Real-ID-compliant state identification cards might soon have an additional choice, one they likely already carry.

Apple has recently disclosed that the release of iOS 26 this autumn will enable iPhone owners to include mobile passports within their digital wallets. Similar to previous versions, this update aims to streamline travel processes for users.

Apple stated that Digital ID provides a secure and confidential method for individuals to keep and display their identification details via their iPhone and Apple Watch. People can effortlessly generate and incorporate a Digital ID into the Apple Wallet utilizing a U.S. passport.

This new option is available at every significant airport throughout California, such as San Francisco International Airport, Oakland International Airport, San Jose Mineta International Airport, and Los Angeles International Airport. Nonetheless, TSA advises passengers to carry their actual passports or another compliant ID since they might be required.

“Please note the Digital ID presented at TSA checkpoints provide identity verification for domestic travel only, and it is not a replacement for your physical Passport. It is important to have the physical U.S. Passport available in case it is needed, and a physical U.S. Passport is still required for international travel,” TSA told a statement.
