Trump Administration Orders 500,000 Immigrants to Self-Deport After Revoking Protections

  • The Trump administration started issuing revocation notices to approximately 500,000 immigrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela, urging them to voluntarily leave the country.
  • The beneficiaries were part of the CHVN program, established by the Biden administration to enable specific foreign nationals to stay and, in certain instances, work in the United States.
  • The Supreme Court ruled that President Donald Trump had the authority to rescind the program, despite individuals who were beneficiaries challenging his decision in federal court.

The

started issuing dismissal notifications on Thursday to roughly 500,000 foreign individuals who were granted provisional permission to reside and work in the U.S. through a specific humanitarian provision.

The so-called

remained accessible to candidates from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela from 2023 until President ended it

earlier this year.

immediately.”

The relocation occurred two weeks following the previous action.
Supreme Court
determined that DHS has the authority to direct CHNV participants to depart from the U.S., despite their ongoing legal challenge against Trump’s cancellation of the initiative established during the Biden administration era.

Should immigrants opt for “voluntary departure” through the Department of Homeland Security’s mobile application, they will be provided with travel support as well as a $1,000 incentive once they reach their native land.

Last month, the Supreme Court permitted the Trump administration to rescind the protected status for approximately 350,000 individuals.

Participants in the CHNV program were awarded provisional, two-year residency extensions following departure from their homelands due to conflicts or hazardous living and working environments.

In a statement regarding the cancellation of the CHNV program, DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin charged the Biden administration with “having deceived America.”

Even though DHS issued notifications to foreign nationals on Thursday, President Trump criticized how his administration’s strict immigration enforcement measures were impacting industries like agriculture, hotels, and tourism, where many times undocumented immigrants work.

“Our excellent farmers and individuals working in hotels and leisure facilities have mentioned that our stringent immigration policies are removing valuable, long-term employees from their industries, leaving positions that would be extremely difficult to fill,” Trump posted on Truth Social early Thursday morning.

“In numerous instances, criminals entering our country due to the EXTREMELY Foolish Biden Open Borders Policy are seeking these positions,” Trump stated.

This won’t do. It’s essential we safeguard our farmers, however, the Criminals Must Leave the USA,” he penned. “Change is imminent!

Later, when addressing journalists, Trump reaffirmed his view that farmers were suffering as a result of his administration’s policies on deportations.

“Farmers are suffering significantly…They have excellent employees who have been working for them for two decades. These workers aren’t citizens, yet they’ve proven to be exceptional,” Trump stated.

He stated, ‘We cannot remove farmers along with their workforce and deport them,’ seemingly referring to his administration’s efforts to expel undocumented farmworkers.

As you visit a farm, you observe individuals who have been working there for 20, 25 years. They’ve done an excellent job, and the farm owner adores them and appreciates their hard work,” Trump went on to say. “But now these employees are expected to be dismissed.

“We will be issuing an order on that shortly, I believe. We cannot do that to our farmers and the hospitality sector, including hotels,” the president stated.

The White House did not promptly respond to requests seeking further clarification on the potential contents of such an executive order.
