BRANSON, Mo. (KY3) — While roundabouts are nothing unusual for residents of Branson as there are multiple scattered across the city, a recently updated junction at the center has left some motorists puzzled about whether to proceed directly ahead or take the curved path.
This location is where Commercial Street meets Main Street. This week saw the reopening of a portion of this junction, now marked with a prominent capital B inside a big circle right at its heart. This design element is included in a broader $5 million initiative aimed at enhancing the downtown district. The crossroads has been configured as a standard four-way stop complete with stop signs instead of yield signs, unlike what you’d find in typical roundabouts. In response to public queries following an announcement from the City of Branson regarding the new B signage, officials clarified that these changes do not signify the conversion of the intersection into a roundabout.
The post received numerous comments, with some individuals questioning whether it had turned into a roundabout, whereas others mentioned having observed several drivers navigating the intersection as though it were one.
KY3 talked to several individuals in Branson regarding their opinions on the roundabout.
Frankly, it doesn’t seem like a typical street at all. It appears more like a promenade or somewhere people stroll,” explained Christy, who had come from Kentucky. “It seems as though driving isn’t meant to happen here.
“I can tell you now, if you’re not cautious, you might be puzzled about where I’m meant to go once I step onto it, you know?” explained Larry, who was visiting from Texas.
The city addressed multiple comments on Facebook to explain that it was a conventional four-way stop rather than a roundabout.
