Alysia stresses, “To start with, let’s discuss choosing your seating position if possible. My top preference is always securing a window seat. This allows me to rest my head comfortably against the wall for better sleep.”
She expands on the tactical benefit: “This ensures I only have one individual beside me, which means if someone is somewhat large and encroaching on my personal space slightly, I can always lean toward the window for some additional room.”
Expressing her individual sleeping preferences, she mentions, “When possible, I opt for seats where I can recline towards the right, as this helps me get better rest during flights with numerous seating choices.”
Drawing upon her extensive travel expertise, Alysia refers to a seating chart from her last trip aboard a Boeing 777-300ER, marking the prime locations she would choose when reserving her next flight.
At first, she mentioned that she would book window seats on both sides of the plane. Later, her aim was to get a window seat where nobody would be sitting directly behind her.

In order to achieve this, she would secure a spot directly in front of an obstacle, potentially near a bathroom. Alysia mentioned that she successfully did this during her trip, which meant she needed to disturb just one additional traveler when needing to use the facilities.
She acknowledged that her flight was completely booked, yet Alysia likes to be cautious by selecting seats towards the back of the aircraft for various additional reasons. She observed that many travelers opt for the first rows with the intention of leaving the airplane quicker.
Alysia has observed that airlines generally fill their seating arrangements starting from the front. As a result, she often ends up with extra space around her—perhaps even having an entire row to herself—when she sits towards the rear of the aircraft.
When traveling with her partner or a companion, Alysia tries to keep an open seat between them. So, they might choose seats A and C, since folks tend to avoid booking the central B spot.
