Starting from June 7, the conference will concentrate on how climate change affects coastal areas and regions. The aim is to develop strategies for adapting these places and jointly tackle this urgent issue.
This journey comes after Cantrell made an unexpected visit to Ottawa, Canada, last month to attend a conference organized by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
The City of New Orleans released the following statement about her journey:
The deep-seated ties between New Orleans and France showcase a vibrant link evident in the city’s architectural styles, culinary offerings, and an eclectic mix of cultural practices.
Mayor LaToya Cantrell has further solidified this significant bond by sustaining a robust collaboration with France. This alliance recently saw the inclusion of hosting French vessels during Navy Week and laid the groundwork for French President Emmanuel Macron’s historic trip to New Orleans.
Mayor LaToya Cantrell and delegates from the City of New Orleans will attend the United Nations Ocean Rise & Coastal Summit, which is jointly organized by the City of Nice and the Ocean & Climate Platform. During this international gathering, political figures and administrators representing significant coastal urban areas and zones will collaborate to formulate an action strategy centered around investigation, provision of resources, and enduring resilience tactics.
Mayor Cantrell is set to join a conference event alongside French President Macron, and the City of New Orleans will also reinstate an agreement to become twin cities with Nice, France.
