Kellogg Park Nature Center Set to Open Next Summer in Walton County

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) — On Wednesday morning, a dedicated unveiling ceremony was held for the newly established Kellogg Park Nature Center.

The newly established center pays tribute to Pat Kellogg’s heritage and the land she gave to Walton County, offering a chance for environmental education.

When my mother passed away, they gave her land to the county to transform into a park,” explained Pan Godchaux, Kellogg’s Daughter. “I enjoy visiting this place; it often aids me in reflecting on my parents. Since we didn’t opt for headstones, this area serves as their tribute for our family.

“Interacting with the people who utilize it and understanding their purposes for using it genuinely touches me because this is precisely the type of information my mother was interested in,” adds Godchaux.

The objective of the new center is to inform the community about the environment that envelops them in Walton County.

It’s going to be a construction-style facility where the interior will feature images and interactive displays,” explained Brian Kellenberger, who serves as the Director of Beach Operations for Walton County. “All elements aimed at helping us narrate the history of Chawtahawee Bay across different eras.

It is hoped that this center will serve as a focal point for educational activities, particularly benefiting students and organizations with an emphasis on nature.

We plan to extend an invitation for the school system to utilize this,” said Kellenberger, adding that any other nature-focused organizations interested in conducting interpretative sessions, classes, or similar activities are also welcome to make use of it.

Kellogg Bayside Park already provides waterfront seating, a launching point for kayaks, and picnic areas for guests to use.

The upcoming Kellogg Park Nature Center is scheduled to welcome visitors during the summer of 2026.
