How Military Parade Will Affect Travel to D.C.:Airport Closures and Flight Waivers Revealed

As Washington prepares for the
military parade
This weekend, the Federal Aviation Administration outlined the flight limitations that will be enforced throughout the city to facilitate its air shows.

The agency
previously announced
That Washington Ronald Reagan National Airport was set to be temporarily shut down; however, an initial timeframe wasn’t provided. The FAA now reports that the closure should last approximately three and a half hours.

The FAA stated in a release that they would introduce traffic management initiatives (TMI) at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) preceding, throughout, and following the event to guarantee safety and will assist in reverting back to regular operations post-event. They mentioned, “Throughout the height of the festivities, specifically between 6 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., local time, the TMI will halt both landings and takeoffs at DCA.”

have provided all necessary waivers to offer travelers on impacted flights the opportunity to rebook their trips.

Travel demand holds steady

As the city gears up for an influx of visitors, travel demand stays steady during the specified timeframe. According to platforms like Cirium and HotelPlanner, there isn’t a notable increase in reservations heading into Washington for this weekend.

Nevertheless, the enthusiasm among travelers heading towards the country’s capital has increased. Last week, Skyscanner reported that Washington, D.C., was the top domestically sought-after location by U.S. tourists for trips scheduled on Thursdays and Fridays. A representative from Skyscanner stated via email to USA TODAY, “Although our Skyscanner data remains anonymous, we cannot definitively attribute the rise in search activity to the military parade; however, it could be linked to the parade announcement made on June 6th.”
