Crews Break Ground on New $10 Million Courthouse Project in Turner County

PARKER, S.D. (Dakota News Now) — Construction began on the new County Courthouse with a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday in Parker.

In February, the old courthouse was torn down after serving the community for more than 120 years.

Following that, various county services have been relocated to multiple distinct sites throughout Parker.

“It is truly one of the most remarkable days. As the commissioner mentioned, this courthouse fulfilled its purpose but had to be demolished due to structural problems. However, constructing it based on that original vision 120 years ago means it will become an excellent facility benefiting the community greatly,” stated Judge Cheryle Gering.

The recently constructed two-story building spanning 34,000 square feet will have a price tag of almost $20 million.
