Ascend Into Adventure: See Reptiles and Birds of Prey at ‘Scaling Up for Summer’ Event in Portage

With the end of school marking the arrival of summer, the City of Portage Parks & Recreation Department is welcoming everyone to an event at no cost, all about enjoying nature.

Over twenty vendors are scheduled to participate in the upcoming “Scalin’ Up for Summer” event at South Westnedge Park, which is situated at 9010 S. Westnedge Ave, this coming Saturday.

Between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., locals can view an assortment of scaled, feathery, and scaly creatures along with informative presentations.

    Dutch Princess provides a lakeside retreat featuring cuisine, entertainment, and picturesque vistas.

The organizers mentioned that Hawg Trough, a massive 2,000-gallon portable aquarium housing native fresh water species, will be present along with Reptiles LS and theMichigan Society of Herpetologists.

Visitors can enjoy close encounters with various reptiles including bearded dragons, ball pythons, geckos, turtles, a big Tegu lizard, and others.

The Wild Side Rehabilitation will similarly display raptors like turkey vultures and owls, as stated by the organizers.

Moreover, visitors will get the opportunity to discover how to tie a fly for fly-fishing, understand the operations of local river and water rescue missions, as well as practice safe boating and kayaking techniques.

The organizers mentioned that the initial 250 children who finish a Scalin’ Up for Summer passport will get a complimentary fishing rod thanks to the support from the Getting Families Fishing and Boating Initiative along with Boat City Marine.
