In its latest warning for travelers from the United States, the Department of State issued a Level 1 advisory for
those traveling to Thailand
The Level 1 “practice typical precautions” alert is described as follows: “This represents the least serious caution regarding potential hazards related to safety and security. All overseas trips carry certain risks, which might vary compared to what you’d encounter within the U.S.”
Individuals planning to visit Thailand were explicitly cautioned against traveling to four specific regions within the nation. The advisory stated, “Be cautious when visiting Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat, and Songkhla provinces because of civil disturbances linked to persistent rebel actions.”
Yala, Pattani, and Narathiwat all have a Level 2 “exercise increased caution” advisory.
“Intermittent clashes between Thai security forces and armed militants have taken place in the southernmost regions of Thailand, specifically within the provinces of Yala, Pattani, and Narathiwat. In these areas, 17 districts continue to be under a state of emergency because of persistent violent confrontations. As a result, there is an incidental danger of encountering violence for American citizens traveling through the southernmost parts of Thailand where this low-level conflict persists,” the advisory stated.
The U.S. government has restricted capacity to deliver emergency assistance to American citizens in these regions since U.S. government workers require specific permission to visit these areas.
Travelers heading to the country were advised to create evacuation strategies that do not depend on U.S. government support and develop an action plan for handling emergencies.
