Measles Surges in a Top U.S. Travel Destination

Two additional measles cases have been reported in Colorado Springs since June 9, as stated by the authorities.

One instance concerns a child who has recently come back from a trip to Canada, and the second pertains to an unvaccinated individual at Denver International Airport.

The two latest cases come after several others in Aurora and Denver, as reported.

Those extra cases were linked to a flight that arrived at Denver International Airport in May. As of June 5th, the U.S. has reported 1,168 confirmed measles cases, according to data.

Out of these instances, 89 percent can be traced back to 17 identified outbreaks. In 2025, three fatalities were reported.

Regarding measles as of June 11, the alert reads: “There remains a continuous threat posed by measles globally, with increasing numbers of international travelers contracting the virus,” It continues, stating that individuals may contract measles across various travel scenarios such as transit centers including airports and railway stations, within modes of transport like planes and trains, during visits to popular sites for tourism, and at sizable gatherings where crowds congregate. Those affected by measles upon returning to their hometowns have the potential to trigger rapid outbreaks amongst populations lacking immunity.”

The Colorado Department of Public Health warns everyone that vaccination is the most effective method for protecting oneself. “Measles is extremely infectious and can occasionally cause severe health issues, yet it is preventable through vaccines,” they state.

Indications of this condition involve fever, coughing, a runny nose, reddened eyes, followed by a distinctive rash which typically begins a few days afterward on the facial area before spreading out.
