The Fitzroy boasts a rich and illustrious past befitting its impressive exterior. Initially, it was known as the Hotel Russell, occupying the very ground once called home by suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst (a blue plaque stands today at this location honoring her residence).
Charles Fitzroy Doll, renowned for his penchant for extravagance, crafted this design. It features a terracotta facade, marble stairways, and an exquisite ballroom. Additionally, he created the first-class dining area of what would become a fated vessel.
Titanic
For history enthusiasts, the hotel’s restaurant, Fitz’s Brasserie, maintains the exact layout from days gone by.
That isn’t the sole connection the hotel maintains with the Titanic. Perched on the second-floor staircase, you can discover Lucky George, a bronze dragon sculpture that once had a partner — the other statue sank along with the Titanic.
