United Airlines Shortens Check-In Window for Passengers

Beginning the following week, United Airlines travelers will be required to check in sooner than they have been doing. Effective June 3rd, United plans to enforce a “check-in cutoff” for all domestic trips 45 minutes prior to takeoff. This represents an advance of 15 minutes from their current policy.

This announcement follows several significant developments in air travel. For instance, Southwest Airlines is now implementing a baggage fee—an important change for an airline previously recognized for offering complimentary check-in luggage services.

On May 27, the airline began charging $35 for the first checked bag and $45 for a second checked bag. However, these fees will not be applicable to members of the A-list Rapid Rewards loyalty program.
