Panama City Leaders Deliver Farewell Speechs at Final Commission Meeting

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) — As Panama City Mayor Michael Rohan and Ward 1 Commissioner Jenna Haligas got ready to depart from the commission, they bid farewell during their final moments in office.

For Haligas, it turned into an emotionally charged goodbye, marked by tears rolling down her cheeks as both locals and a historical downtown street sign displaying her name offered their support. Reflecting upon her tenure of eight years in office, she described it as an incredible journey filled with ups and downs that she will always cherish.

Truly, one of the most valuable attributes a commissioner can possess is the capacity to communicate effectively with others and genuinely care about them, irrespective of their statements or behaviors,” Haligas emphasized. “I believe that my tenure was distinguished by the deep affection I hold for people.

Haligas remains uncertain about what lies ahead for her. Nonetheless, she intends to concentrate further on her nonprofit organization, Be Like Jancy. This charitable entity supplies locals with essentials such as groceries, utility assistance, sporting equipment, registration costs, and various forms of crucial aid aimed at helping individuals regain stability in their lives.

Mayor Rohan, however, adopted a more critical stance during his farewell address. Rather than offering a gentle send-off, he utilized the opportunity to highlight persistent problems within the municipal administration.

I think that through dedication, sincerity, and collaboration, we can advance Panama City,” stated Mayor Rohan. “Nonetheless, I soon realized that not all leaders prioritize ethical conduct. Right from the beginning, one of the commissioners indicated that even though I had been chosen by the public,” Rohan went on to say, “there were others who would reject proposals they didn’t agree with. This ought to have served as my initial warning sign.

Mayor Rohan stated his aim was to unlock Panama City’s waterfront and rejuvenate the marina, however, he failed to garner the necessary backing from fellow commissioners.

The recently chosen commission members will take their oaths tomorrow at noon at City Hall.
