Appleton, Wis. (WBAY) — On Tuesday, Appleton International Airport (ATW) saw the arrival of a new air carrier, making it the fifth airline to provide services at ATW.
The airline plans to introduce direct seasonal flights to Fort Myers (RSW) starting from January 30, 2026, until April 13, 2026.
Flights will operate two times per week initially, with the schedule expanding to four times per week beginning in late March.
Through this new route, Appleton broadens its warm-weather travel options to encompass Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW). This addition caters to visitors heading to or departing from Fort Myers, Sanibel Island, Bonita Springs, Naples, and Marco Island.
This new carrier will simplify travel to Florida for residents of Northeast Wisconsin,” stated Abe Weber, the director of the Appleton airport. “We have consistently aimed to streamline travel experiences—making them quicker, simpler, and more user-friendly—and this aligns seamlessly with Sun Country’s commitment to transporting passengers securely, stress-free, and with warm hospitality.
For more than four decades, Sun Country has been bridging the gap between residents of the Upper Midwest and sunny locales, and we’re delighted to introduce flights to Fort Myers for our patrons in Appleton this coming winter,” stated Joe Beckendorf, who serves as the senior director of network planning and business development at Sun Country. “We take pride in our expansion within Wisconsin, and we’re particularly enthusiastic about including ATW among the airports we serve.
Following the introduction of Sun Country, Appleton International Airport will provide a total of six direct routes to Florida. These Florida-bound flights will operate using a Boeing 737-800 aircraft, featuring 186 seats.
“We’ve seen remarkable expansion at the Appleton airport, largely thanks to the backing from our local community and airlines such as Sun Country who have put their faith in this area,” Weber stated. “Adding these new routes will make things much easier for our passengers and enable us to host well over one million visitors each year,” he added. In 2024, Appleton International Airport saw a historic high with 1,089,235 individuals passing through its gates.
We appreciate Sun Country acknowledging the significant economic opportunities within the Fox Cities market,” stated Outagamie County Executive Thomas Nelson. “Travelers prefer using the Appleton Airport for both work and leisure as the flight options and airline services align with their increasing demands.
