ANGOLA, Ind. (WANE) – Many residents and holiday visitors were anticipated to start boating activities in Angola’s lakes over the Memorial Day weekend, marking the beginning of a season filled with jet skiing, fishing, and swimming.
However, with temperatures reaching seventy at most, some boaters might decide to wait for more pleasant conditions.
Many Angola businesses were
hopeful regarding their holiday sales even with the unseasonably warm sixty-degree temperatures
One fishing store does not.
I’ve been at this for 18 years,” Kirk Bowers, owner of The Corner Landing, stated. “This might be the most sluggish spring we have ever experienced.
Bowers mentioned that certain team members aren’t ready for busier periods because they haven’t been handling numerous customers entering the store or purchasing boat fuel. This situation will persist until the weather improves.
“Boater-friendly,” The Corner Landing’s sales remain stagnant.
Our operations rely heavily on the weather,” Bowers stated. “While I can generate sales and promotions, if customers aren’t around, they simply won’t be here.
Some vessels continue to navigate Lake James. Boater Scott Elliott mentioned that he brings his family to Angola whenever possible since childhood. He stated they won’t let the cooler temperatures ruin their extended weekend plans.
Their customs involve fishing, hiking at Pokagon State Park, and concluding the day with a barbecue.
My grandparents constructed cabins in this area during the 1950s, and now our entire family gathers here,” Elliott mentioned. “Every Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day, we make sure to visit.
Other relatives and friends opted for satisfying their dessert cravings instead. Milena Antos, the manager of The Social, mentioned that the ice cream parlor was bustling on Saturday. She noted that during weekends, which often symbolize gatherings, one can typically spot lengthy queues forming at The Social. Although Antos stated that sales have dipped compared to previous years, she anticipates an uptick as temperatures rise and additional boats hit the waterways around Angola.
