Playland, a beloved fixture of Westchester County, stands as much more than just an amusement park; it’s a site where numerous families have forged enduring recollections. Over this past weekend, the venue provided complimentary entry, welcoming both seasoned enthusiasts and new visitors to partake in the enchantment firsthand.

The moment the gates swung open, people of every age surged forward, keen to be some of the initial visitors enjoying the rides and amenities. “When it opened up, everyone started sprinting,” noted Jeremy Terrero, an enthusiastic visitor caught up in the fervor.

Samantha Allen and her dad, John, were part of the inaugural group tackling this year’s challenges.

Samantha, a seasoned pro when it came to thrill rides, quipped, “This marks my second attempt and third overall; somehow, I still feel remorse afterward.” As for John, the day transported him back in time with fond memories. He remarked, “We’re incredibly grateful to Ken Jenkins and all those involved in getting this place operational. I’m confident that as summer progresses, things will only improve further.”

John’s ties to Playland run profound.

We spent our childhood here. When I was as old as Samantha, this place was where I would go with my buddies,” he recounted. “Multiple generations have cherished this spot, and I must say, I haven’t come across another county that boasts an amusement park of its own, operated entirely by the local government.

Although the enthusiasm was high, not everything was prepared for the grand opening. Several rides were still offline because of delayed inspections and disagreements with an external firm. At present, only eight small-scale rides and five significant attractions have started operating; however, park authorities are optimistic that all facilities will function smoothly sometime during this summer.

Even with these obstacles, the vitality at Playland remained strong. The roar of roller coasters and waves of laughter permeated the atmosphere, marking the beginning of summertime enjoyment.

Ken Jenkins, the Westchester County Executive, recognized the difficulties encountered by the park.

“There’s a significant hill we must conquer to achieve this,” he stated. Nevertheless, his positive outlook was echoed by visitors such as Terry Smith and his family, who were delighted to participate in the opening day celebrations.

“I’m doing fantastic; the weather is delightful, everyone looks terrific, so let’s get ready for an enjoyable time,” Smith mentioned. In response to being queried about his motivation for attending, he chuckled, “Naturally, it was because of the price of entry.” Given the free access offered over the weekend, numerous families seized this chance to create lasting memories.

Playland Park will be accessible during Memorial Day weekend, from Saturday, May 24th to Monday, May 26th, with operating hours from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily. Entrance, attractions, and car parking will all be complimentary throughout these three days.

You may also submit your application for numerous summertime positions at Playland Park, such as Park Management (Operations), Ride Operators, Ride Attendants, Lifeguards, Cashiers, Custodial staff, and Painters during our forthcoming Job Fair, which will take place on Saturday, June 7, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., at the Westchester County Center.
