Even though it’s still a few days out, the upcoming show is already letting Cast Members be among the initial live audiences to attend. These events, known as Cast Member previews, were open to all guests at the theater on the night of May 24th, providing an opportunity not only to see but also to record the performance.

As we reported
in our most recent construction progress report
The pathway leading up to the Sunset Showcase Theater has been reopened for visitors. Previously, the entrance featured a gate adorned with Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy checkered flags; this gate has since been repainted with a shattered glass design that complements the mural adorning the theater building.

In line with the new exhibit, the green wall next to the pathway is now decorated with framed artwork featuring the principal characters from “Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After.” The initial picture depicts Captain Hook smiling as he holds his sword against a fragmented red backdrop.

Every one of the framed pictures aligns with the same artistic style.

Earlier this month, released by Disney, although the frames and backdrops have changed. The subsequent frame shows Maleficent clutching her staff with Diablo sitting on her shoulder.

To ensure she isn’t overlooked, Cruella de Vil sports her signature white attire adorned with emerald accessories and vivid red lip color. Similar to Captain Hook’s setting, she stands against a crimson background.

Notably, a fourth panel features artwork of the Evil Queen. Although Captain Hook, Cruella, and Maleficent are recognized as the main characters in the series, this marks the first time we’ve seen the Evil Queen depicted in this particular artistic style. She appears dressed in her usual attire, sporting an arrogant expression. This promotional image essentially serves as a hint about what viewers can expect from the forthcoming show.

The concluding frame features a rectangular depiction of the Magic Mirror. It is shaded in hues of purple and green with additional fragments from the broken design visible in the backdrop.

Shifting focus to the primary theater area, the mural above the entryway has stayed the same as our previous update.

Within the structure, the theater closely resembles the earlier released conceptual artwork for the production. The seating arrangement directs attention towards a conventional elevated stage adorned with broken mirrors positioned over the curtain and along both sidewalls.

As guests enter the space, the mirrors are covered in a fog-like color with shattered sections running across most of the reflective surfaces.

As the guests settle into their seats, the crowd starts to catch fleeting looks at some well-known animated Disney villains peeking through the mirrors, as if they are imprisoned within.

The Enchanted Mirror reveals that all the vanquished antagonists have been imprisoned within a specific mirrored dimension. These foes have been harassing him incessantly, both day and night, begging for liberation, insisting that they were merely perceived incorrectly.

Much of this introduction is conveyed via a specially composed song created exclusively for “Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After.” When the performance begins, the biggest frame containing the Magic Mirror rises from its spot in the middle of the stage up to the central point of the theater’s ceiling.

In the end, three antagonists manage to shatter the mirror’s glass: Captain Hook, Cruella de Vil, and Maleficent. To win over the favor of the viewers, these three villains each recount shortened versions of their tales. Nevertheless, since these accounts come from the viewpoints of the villains themselves, several details differ significantly from what might be commonly remembered.

Each of the antagonists attempts to persuade the spectators, asserting they aren’t as wicked as depicted in the animated movies. When the initial villain shows up, it’s none other than Cruella de Vil, adorned with her recognizable fur-trimmed jacket.

The artwork around the stage, reflected in the mirrors, alters to correspond with every antagonist as they share their story. In Cruella’s segment, the area is adorned with high-fashion drawings alongside the decayed remnants of Hell Hall. She initiates her performance with a rock version of her iconic “Cruella de Vil” tune.

Cruella asserts that all true artists inevitably face misunderstanding, justifying her wish to use the Dalmatians for her next fur coat as not being too wrong.

When Cruella leaves the scene, the spotlight shifts to Captain Hook as the next antagonist set to share his tale. The setting changes to the inside of the Jolly Roger, where the waters of Neverland can be glimpsed through the ship’s windows.

Hook asserts he was a “kindly commander” who maintained good relations with his team yet often found himself overshadowed by Peter Pan. In the end, isn’t acquiring wealth, fame, and everlasting youth in Neverland everything one could desire?

In “Peter Pan,” Hook performs a fresh rendition of “A Pirate’s Life,” but this musical interlude takes an amusing turn when Tick-Tock the crocodile suddenly appears. In a digitally enhanced scene, the crocodile glides across the stage within its frame, seemingly eager to chase after Hook.

The last antagonist to show up is Maleficent, her presence marked by the decaying remnants of the Forbidden Mountain enveloped in thorns and displayed throughout the area. She performs a revamped rendition of “Once Upon a Dream” but with much more somber verses.

In a musical number, Maleficent conveys that she deserves gratitude for uniting Aurora with Prince Philip because her spell necessitated the magic of true-love’s kiss.

However, just as things appear to settle down for the villains, their peace is disrupted by the appearance of Hades and Jafar.

Their presence triggers a domino effect with the other villains slamming against their glass containers, each one screeching for liberation as well.

Right as things appear to be getting completely out of hand, the Evil Queen shows up in the main mirror. She breaks much of the glass, which terrifies the MagicMirror.

To fix the mirror’s world, the Magic Mirror requests that spectators select among those who argued they were the most overlooked—one from either Maleficent, Captain Hook, or Cruella—based on crowd applause. This victor stays onstage for an abbreviated rendition of their signature tune. The mirror believes this selection might calm them within the mirror realm. Yet, each triumphant villain vows incessantly to demand freedom even after the curtains close.

The overall duration of “Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After” is roughly 15 minutes. Disney has already uploaded it.
