Lackawanna County
.
The yearly Running of the Saints took place in Jessup on Saturday afternoon. Volunteers transported statues of Saints Anthony, George, and Ubaldo through the town’s roads.
Certainly, Ubaldo, the patron saint of Gubbio, consistently takes the lead. This custom has been an integral part of Jessup since 1909 and is deeply connected to Italian heritage and traditions. It began in Gubbio, Italy, during the 12th century.
Across the globe, the Race of the Saints can be witnessed in just two locations: Gubbio, Italy, and Jessup, Pennsylvania.
The 33rd yearly Jessup Hose Co. 2 Carnival commenced shortly after noon on Saturday. Locals relished in games, cuisine, and attractions prior to the main event—the race.
