Come to Griffin Bay Bookstore for an evening with local author Susan Vernon as she discusses, reads from, and presents slides about her book “Sitting Still With Twilight Owls” on Tuesday, June 3rd at 7 PM in the store’s café area.
In her celebrated work “Rainshadow World,” the writer delves profoundly—often through personal narratives—into the often-overlooked existence of creatures that weave the fabric of life within the remarkable biodiversity found on San Juan Island, Washington. This exploration encompasses nocturnal owls (specifically short-eared varieties), azure-winged butterflies, long-standing dragonflies, and underground-dwelling moths as they navigate their habitats among threatened grasslands, lush coniferous woodlands, and tidal marshes.
Vernon will present slides featuring some of her cherished locations and discuss how taking a few quiet minutes on a serene island can lead to remarkable experiences of beauty, wonder, and a deep connection with nature and each other.
Following the presentation, there will be an opportunity for a short Q&A session. Vernon’s books titled “Rainshadow World” and “Sitting Still With Twilight Owls” will be available for purchase, and Vernon would be delighted to personalize each copy upon request.
