Aurora’s Annual Fossil Fest Returns This Weekend!

In Aurora, North Carolina, the Fossil Museum initiated a two-day Fossil Festivity event. Despite being a tranquil and petite town, Aurora transforms as throngs of visitors fill its roads during the festival period.

“This kind of event is a major one that boosts the economy; it injects funds into it. Local enterprises operating this weekend will likely experience an increase in earnings, aiding their continuous operation throughout the year,” stated Cynthia Crane, who serves as the Executive Director at the Aurora Fossil Museum.

The event features live music, cuisine, dinosaur exhibitions, and a fossil dig where attendees can look for items such as shark teeth.

“We’re demonstrating that we can enjoy ourselves here. This is a charming small town. Today it’s quite bustling. However, many other days are very peaceful. Still, we maintain an optimistic view regarding the entire festival and the remainder of the year, as well as the various other festivals we host throughout the year,” stated Beverly Horvath, who owns the Blue Crab Boutique.

It is mentioned that this event marks the 32nd year of hosting the festival, and it serves as the main fundraising activity for the museum for the fourth consecutive year.

“So we’re an independently operated, non-profit organization supported by public funding. This implies that we operate autonomously and must generate funds ourselves to remain operational and continue offering services like fossil digs along with various other activities. On one side, we have salaried employees who assist us in conducting extensive community engagement initiatives, educational programs, summer camps, and more. These efforts contribute not only to our educational goals but also help maintain the facilities,” Crane explained.
