ATLANTA, GA — According to WalletHub’s recent rankings published this month, metro Atlanta deserves a spot on your summer travel itinerary.
The metro fell to second place from last year, when it topped the list as No. 1.

This year, according to the personal finance website WalletHub, onlymetro Orlando in Florida ranks higher than metro Atlanta.
Specialists analyzed 100 American locations popular for summer trips, considering factors such as travel expenses and inconveniences, local prices, points of interest, climate conditions, available activities, and security measures.
Ultimately, the Georgia metro ended up in second place.
This is how metro Atlanta was ranked:

According to WalletHub’s report, “The Atlanta metropolitan area ranks as the second-best choice for summer travel, partly due to direct flights from key urban centers that start at just $219 without needing any layovers.”
Furthermore, Atlanta boasts great variety in its attractions. It stands out for having numerous amusement parks, shopping malls, ice cream parlors, and swimming facilities, offering ample opportunities for entertainment and relaxation. If you’re someone who likes to unwind with drinks during your vacation, Atlanta features one of the most lenient last call times nationwide, at 4 a.m.
In August, another city in Georgia—Augusta—enhanced its ranking and secured the 60th spot overall. Although Atlanta took the second position for travel expenses and inconveniences, Augusta offers fewer attractions compared to most cities, as per WalletHub’s findings.
People from Georgia who want to enjoy some sunshine this summer might consider visiting locations such as Jekyll Island, St. Simons Island, Tybee Island, or Savannah. Additional attractions include Six Flags Over Georgia and Six Flags White Water.
Spivey Splash, a water park located in Jonesboro, will kick off its latest season on Memorial Day.
