MHP Kicks Off 2025 Memorial Day Safety Drive: Ensuring Secure Journeys

The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) will kick off the summer travel season during the 2025 Memorial Day holiday travel period.

The journey period will begin on Friday, May 23 at 6:00 p.m. and end on Monday, May 26 by midnight.

Patrol officers will encourage safe journeys by carrying out highly noticeable law enforcement activities. This time around during the Memorial Day Weekend travels aligns with the nationwide “Click-it or Ticket” initiative aimed at ensuring passenger safety. Their ongoing emphasis includes strict policing of violations such as excessive speed, driver distractions, and drunk driving. Additionally, they plan to utilize safety checkpoints intending to lower accident rates over the course of the holiday weekend.

Over the 2024 Memorial Day holiday travel period, MHP examined 135 accidents involving four deaths and carried out 118 drunk-driving apprehensions across state and federal roadways. Additionally, the agency handed out 864 citations.
