Moscow air travel collapse: Drones disrupt airports, strand thousands

Russia’s biggest carrier, Aeroflot, has annulled 106 routes to and from Moscow. Meanwhile, Ural Airlines scrapped 18 flights. Additionally, both Pobeda and S7 airlines have reported multiple cancelations scheduled for May 6th and 7th.

The flight was rerouted to Kazan because Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport had halted all incoming and outgoing flights. The passengers remained trapped aboard the stationary plane for an extended period before they were finally allowed into the terminal building. Once there, they found themselves abandoned without any provisions like lodging, meals, drinking water, or even regular updates from officials.

The conditions at Moscow’s Vnukovo International Airport are notably difficult, characterized by “extremely crowded cafeterias and scarce seating,” causing significant inconvenience to numerous travelers. Every flight is experiencing delays or has been cancelled.

When possible, airlines are providing affected passengers with options for either rescheduling their flights or giving them complete ticket refunds.
