Coffee Co. Animal Shelter Warns of Timely Scam Just Days Before Big Fundraiser Week

SOS Animal Shelter in Enterprise is alerting the public about a scam that is detrimental to their nonprofit organization.

A person associated with the shelter mentioned that they encountered the scam while browsing TikTok. An account impersonating SOS had been soliciting donations from users under false pretenses.

We put in tremendous effort to gather funds for the SOS Animal Shelter, but it somewhat diminishes our impact,” stated Georgia Fleming, president of the SOS Animal Shelter Board. “Being a non-profit, each penny we collect gets reinvested into the shelter. It’s quite astounding.

For nearly four decades, SOS has served as a no-kill sanctuary for stray and abandoned animals in the Enterprise region. Despite facing difficulties last year when they encountered financial issues potentially threatening their closure, they managed to overcome this challenge by raising sufficient funds through donations, allowing them to remain operational.

Now they aim to ensure that individuals do not get defrauded of their funds, which were intended for what they believed was a noble cause.

The deception followed closely after several upcoming fundraising activities scheduled for the shelter later this week.

On Friday, the gathering will take place at the Enterprise Country Club from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The proceeds generated from this event will benefit the shelter.

This coming Saturday morning, SOS will host their regular dog washing event at Century 21 in Enterprise between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., offering baths for dogs at a cost of $10 each.

The organization will also be selling shirts at the City of Enterprise’s ‘Military Mutts and Music’ event.

Fleming adds that if someone wants to volunteer to help at the shelter, they can show up anytime from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Saturday or 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
