Alaska Residents Rush to Meet the REAL ID Deadline

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The deadline to get your REAL ID is this Wednesday, May 7.

REAL ID identification cards have a star in the corner of the license. Citizens will need it to fly domestically without a passport, enter a military base, and other federal buildings.

Transportation Security Administration will begin enforcing the long-delayed federal ID requirements starting May 7. This could mean long delays if your identification isn’t updated.

The Alaska Department of Motor Vehicles says over 350,000 Alaskans already have one.

If you don’t have your REAL ID, you can still use a valid passport or Military ID. Here is a
DMV document checklist
of items you will need to take when you update your REAL ID status.
