LEWISBURG, WV (WVNS)—The State Fair of West Virginia holds significant importance; many families journey annually to Fairlea for this event.
Mountaineers across generations encounter typical yet remarkable life events at the fairgrounds, such as their initial spins on the merry-go-round and their first romantic encounters.
Greg Miller, who owns the Miller Food Concessions based in Lewisburg, comes back to the fair each year with his special “formula for enchantment.”
I’ve spent about 30 years in the food industry. You wouldn’t guess from looking at me that I’m so seasoned, but yes, three decades,” Miller quipped in April. “Our work takes us across the eastern U.S. Our home base is Lewisburg. During winters, you’ll find us laboring away in Florida, then come summers, we’re hopping between festivals and fairs throughout West Virginia.
People who spent their childhood going to the State Fair might easily spot Miller’s vibrant trailers, which he mentioned he both creates and decorates himself.
Miller and his crew peddle classic carnival treats such as corndogs and genuine soft-serve ice cream, a source of great pride for Miller.
“I’m more into the fun stuff,” he noted, explaining that he sells traditional festival fare.
Miller mentioned that his fascination with business began at the State Fair during his childhood when he accompanied his parents. They were involved in selling John Deere machinery and chain saws.
Miller mentioned that his mother motivated him to sell John Deere toys at a stall during the State Fair, and as a result of this effort, he made sufficient earnings to purchase his first vehicle later on.
I hold a profound affection for the West Virginia State Fair,” Miller shared, recalling how he met his wife there 46 years ago. “As a child, when it came to town for those initial ten—or rather nine—days, everything felt magical. Its departure used to leave me feeling incredibly sad and isolated.
In 1992, Miller directed his enterprise toward cuisine, and he mentioned encountering numerous fresh profiles alongside many recognizable ones annually at the State Fair of West Virginia.
It feels like coming full circle when we return, reconnecting with the folks we only get to meet once or twice a year,” he stated. “Back when we were involved in the John Deere agriculture sector, we served many clients from nearby enterprises. As a result, we run into these individuals who continue to drop by, usually annually.
During the 100th State Fair of West Virginia, Miller’s trailers will be at Fairlea.
