ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) – On Sunday morning, the inaugural cruise ship of the season arrived in Escanaba.
This summer, a total of 35 cruise ships are anticipated to visit the location following their tour of the Great Lakes.
Victory Cruise Lines’ Victory I’s voyage began in Toronto and will end in Chicago. The cruise ship stopped at Niagara Falls, Cleveland, Detroit, and Mackinac Island before coming into port at Escanaba. People from all over are enjoying this tour of the Great Lakes.
“I’m the only Canadian on board and I’m just loving it,” Canadian Writer Toby Saltzman said. “I’ve been so warmly received by everybody, and this has been very special to me.”
The cruises that visit Escanaba this summer will be treated to excursions that show off the history and culture of the city. Escanaba DDA Director Craig Woerpel says these cruises bolster the U.P.’s economy.
It places Escanaba on the map and also highlights the Upper Peninsula,” Woerpel stated. “The cruise ships circulating the Great Lakes bring significant economic benefits, and this presents an opportunity for people to appreciate all that the U.P. has to offer.
Saltzman mentions that even though her time in the U.P. was brief, it left a lasting impact on her.
I have to say, I believe Escanaba should be recognized more,” stated Saltzman. “Like I mentioned earlier, all I’ve witnessed since arriving is what lies between the cruise dock and our current location. It feels like an exceptionally clean and inviting place, which makes me think it could serve as an ideal backdrop for making some great films.
A different lady from Delaware who was also on the cruise concurred that the Upper Peninsula is indeed a remarkable place.
