Attendees at the Appleby Horse Fair have been advised not to get there much before the start of the yearly event.
In its 249th year, the fair will witness thousands of Gypsies and travelers setting up camp in Westmorland, Cumbria, from June 5 to June 11.
Visitors arriving with caravans prematurely may encounter problems in nearby regions because parking spots are scarce, according to the Appleby Horse Fair Multi-Agency Strategic Co-ordination Group (MASCG).
Billy Welch, a representative for gypsies and travelers from MASCG, mentioned that the count of temporary stopping places has been decreasing annually.
This gathering is among the biggest events in Europe for Gypsies and travelers, focusing primarily on displaying and selling horses.
Mr. Welch stated, “Although some individuals with bow tops clearly must leave earlier out of necessity, the majority of people actually do have the option.”

The MASCG is led by the Westmorland and Furness Council, with assistance from members of the Gypsy and traveler community, Cumbria Police, the RSPCA, the Environment Agency, and various other organizations.
Cumbria Police likewise cautioned that they would “have no qualms” about taking measures against hazardous driving practices and unroadworthy vehicles, which includes removing such cars from public spaces.
Deputy Superintendent Dan St Quintin from Cumbria Police stated, “I have no regrets about our strategy implemented last year, as it played a significant role in making this event one of the safest concerning road safety in recent times.”
