U.S. Issues ‘Do Not Travel’ Advisory: Critical Updates for 21 Countries

The U.S. has included two additional nations on its “do not travel” advisory list.

A few weeks ago, authorities updated their travel advisory lists to include both North Korea and Burkina Faso as destinations best avoided by American travelers.

The State Department has four travel warning levels: maintain regular safety measures, be extra cautious with security, consider avoiding the trip altogether, and refrain from traveling entirely.

The alert status for both North Korea and Burkina Faso has been raised to Level 4.

This represents the safest level within the U.S. State Department’s security classification scheme.

Journeying to North Korea has been cautioned against because of “the persistent significant danger of apprehension, prolonged imprisonment, and the hazard of arbitrary detainment.”

Traveling to Burkina Faso is not recommended due to heightened risks of “terrorist activities, criminal acts, and abductions.”

The latest update has increased the list of countries American travelers should steer clear of to 21 nations.
