One of the three teenagers accused of murdering an Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputy has found out how long he will be spending behind bars.

What they’re saying

This marked progress toward achieving justice in the killing of Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputy Brad Reckling. On Friday, charges were filed and sentencing occurred for the initial teen among the trio involved.

“Even though progress towards justice was made today, no verdict can make us feel better about this situation,” stated Undersheriff Timothy Willis.

Karim Moore received a sentence of 5 to 20 years in prison on Friday.

Moore is the lead among three teenagers accused of ambushing and killing Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputy Bradley Reckling last June.

Reckling was involved in a unit looking into stolen vehicles when they were pursuing the car driven by 18-year-old Ramon Debose, which also had Moore and another 18-year-old named Marquis Goins inside.

Debose faced charges for murder, while Goins was accused of being an accomplice.

“We concentrate on the criminals behind these offenses, but they’re insignificant. The key point is Brad and his family,” stated Willis.

Reckling and his spouse Jacklyn were parents to three kids, with an additional child expected upon his passing. His wife appeared in court during Karim Moore’s admission of guilt to three serious charges: running a criminal operation, possessing stolen goods, and carrying firearms illegally.

Next week, numerous deputies from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department will head to Washington D.C. as part of National Police Week activities. During this event, Reckling’s name will be inscribed at the National Law Enforcement Memorial.

“Although this year will be filled with heartbreak, it promises to be truly remarkable, and I believe it will contribute significantly to our growth,” Willis stated.
