Power Restored to Popular British Tourist Destination After Widespread Blackout

Electricity supply has been completely reinstated on the tourist hotspot island of Bali in Indonesia by early Saturday morning, according to a declaration made by a government-run company. This restoration came following a prolonged power outage that began on Friday.

Darmawan Prasodjo, who serves as the president director at the state-owned electric company PLN (Perusahaan Listrik Negara), indicated that initial signs pointed towards a disturbance in underwater cables being responsible for the blackout.

On Friday at 4 pm local time (0800 GMT), several areas of Bali experienced a power failure. This caused the entire region to be cast into darkness, bringing most activities to a halt shortly before an extensive electricity breakdown occurred just days prior.

The airport on the island was affected as well; however, incoming and outgoing flights proceeded utilizing emergency power from backup generators, according to an official statement by the airport’s general manager, Ahmad Syaugi Shahab. Nonetheless, some departures faced delays.

“We apologize for the current power outage and the inconvenience this has caused,” PLN stated. “Several regions have begun to recover, while others are still in the normalization phase.”

We appreciate all our customers’ understanding as they navigate through this inconvenience.

The firm stated: “At present, PLN is working to reinstate power after an initial disruption was observed at the Celukan Bawang PLTU Unit #2, leading to a halt in electricity provision across certain areas of Bali.”

The firm stated that they have successfully reinstated 43 percent of electricity, with PLN pledging to deliver periodic updates. “We appreciate your support and prayers.”

According to local media reports, traffic lights failed to operate correctly, resulting in massive gridlocks. Additionally, businesses couldn’t conduct transactions because their payment systems were non-functional, and phone services experienced interruptions as well.

Photos posted on social media revealed traffic jams due to the blackout, areas left without light, and extensive queues forming at the airport check-in desks.

The power failure happened mere days following the blackout in the Iberian Peninsula that plunged millions into darkness on Monday, severely impacting both local and global transportation systems and leaving travelers stranded.
