LONGVIEW, Texas (KLTV) — As spring arrives, animal service centers throughout East Texas are once again emphasizing the same seasonal advice: make sure to have your pets spayed or neutered.
In the last year, the Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center has received an enormous amount of stray, abandoned, or owner-surrendered animals.
“We receive around 5,000 animals annually, and this figure is solely for Gregg County,” explains Executive Director Jenna George.
Moreover, the figures keep increasing.
‘It’s an ongoing daily struggle with animals coming in. Yesterday, we admitted around 33 creatures. Today, we expect two litters of unwanted pups. One litter consists of eight puppies, and another has four,” explains Jenna.
Walking through their heart reveals the countenances of creatures seeking another opportunity at life, needing someone to offer them this fresh start.
“Just need a place where I can call my forever home. Our primary objective is to find the perfect family who will be the ideal match for me,” states George.
The unfortunate truth for the creatures that arrive here is that they might not leave alive. The facility isn’t designed for long-term accommodation. Although some dogs do stay at the shelter for more than a month, such cases are rare rather than common.
Their challenge has two aspects: spaying/neutering and adoption.
“One of the dogs has been here for approximately a month. He’s fully vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. He’s all set to be adopted as he’s very playful,” explains lead kennel technician Kelsey Overstreet.
“Get your pets spayed and neutered; this is crucial not only for controlling their population but also for ensuring their well-being,” George states.
Every animal at the center has been spayed or neutered and vaccinated.
The adoption cost is $25. Check out the center’s Facebook page for more details.
