This year, facing significant budget reductions from the federal government—including complete defunding for museums and libraries—the Friends of the Library are putting in extra effort to support our local San Juan Island Library. We aim to make our fundraising activities as effortless as possible, and indeed, many of them are quite enjoyable!
On May 11th, from 1:00 to 3 p.m., the Friends are organizing a charming tea party. The gathering will feature thoughtfully crafted tea treats like warm scones topped with clotted cream, dainty pastries, and an assortment of savory options ranging from gourmet cheese sandwiches to cucumber sandwiches and smoked salmon canapés.
Local historian Boyd Pratt will join us as our ‘tea’ speaker, discussing the roles of women during the early days of San Juan Island. This will include insights into both local indigenous tribal women and early female settlers. Additionally, enjoy engaging activities like the hat competition and various raffles.
It promises to be a delightful occasion, celebrating our moms, backing our community library, and enjoying an excellent outing together.
Tickets can be obtained via our website online:

And also from any FOL Board member. We’ll be roaming around selling tickets too. Polish up your gardening hat and come join the festivities!
