Gear Up for Spring Fever: Rock, Comedy and BBQ Night in Marion

Rogue Theatrics is set to showcase its distinctive mix
Of live rock concerts, comedic sketches, and dining
During its event, Spring Fever: Amped & Wild, on May 9.

The show will happen at Twenty Three North in Waldo and combines elements of a concert, stand-up comedy, and a barbecue dinner. Guests can enjoy their meal inside or out on the patio.

Established in 2002, Rogue Theatrics has a legacy of staging performances in key American urban centers such as Los Angeles and Chicago. Following a long break of fifteen years, the group was brought back to life in Marion during 2023 through the efforts of founder Chip Gregory, alongside producing artistic director and choreographer Kristi Wink, managing producer Eric Mosley, and producer/creative developer Daniel Bradshaw, as stated in their official statement.

Both have strong connections to Marion, and together they’ve formed a group comprising experienced theater performers and emerging new talents.

Rogue Theatrics has already staged six completely booked events in Marion with the intention of turning the town into a hub for live performances. These shows stand out due to their close-knit, engaging atmosphere and frequently take place in unconventional locations throughout the city.

The group’s house band, Rogues To Nowhere, consists of Kathy Hill on keyboards, Ben Zucker on guitar, Kyle Goings on drums, Guy Schlichting on guitar, and Stephen Patterson on bass.

“We put in extensive effort through both work and rehearsals. While the enchantment might start during practice, it fully blossoms when presented before our audience,” Wink stated.

Expanding Marion’s entertainment options

Rogue Theatrics does not intend to rival established entities such as the Marion Palace Theatre. Rather, it looks to enhance the current live entertainment scene by bringing a more intimate cabaret-style experience to lesser-used spaces, focusing on engagement, interactivity, and innovation, as stated in the press release.

“Think of us as a mix between a rock concert, a comedy show, and an elegant, alcohol-filled dinner party,” Gregory explained.

The performances highlight content created locally, featuring local artists, with an atmosphere closer to a nightclub than a traditional theater. Dinner options consist of dishes prepared by chefs, available either prior to or throughout the show, and deliberately designed to be both upscale yet daringly flavorful.
