Florida Lawmakers Set to Reconvene in a Week for Balanced Budget Vote

Tallahassee, FL (WCTV) — The anticipated conclusion of the 2025 Florida Legislative session was scheduled for Friday, highlighted by the lowering of a handkerchief, rounds of applause, and celebrations.

That was not the case this year.

The legislative chambers within the statehouse
were unable to reach an agreement on a financial plan that could be submitted to Governor Ron DeSantis.

Senate President Ben Albritton has stated that legislators will have a break for the upcoming week. They aim to start a budget conference during the week beginning May 12th, with the intention of finalizing and passing an effective budget.

The session has been extended until June 9.

Florida politics:

The House and Senate still haven’t bridged the $4 billion difference in the state budget agreed upon by both bodies. Behind-the-scenes talks have been ongoing for several weeks to determine the appropriate level of spending for the coming year.
