LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) — Plans for a new monument at the Kentucky Horse Park aim to commemorate the remarkable relationship between a young individual from Madison County and an acclaimed racehorse. This tribute will celebrate their enduring connection and lasting legacies.
It turned into one of horse racing’s most uplifting tales when Cody Dorman initially encountered Cody’s Wish. Having already defied the odds, it appeared that Cody assisted his namesake in doing the very same thing, leading to new developments.
Visitors at the Kentucky Horse Park have the opportunity to experience that connection.

During Cody’s Wish’s race, nobody cheered harder than Cody Dorman.
The duo gained recognition in the racing community due to their strong connection, with Cody’s Wish being inspired by his human companion.
Cody, who was born with a rare condition, couldn’t speak, yet his deep affection and deeds towards his cherished horse were always understood without any verbal explanation.
In 2023, Cody died shortly after winning his last Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile race with Cody’s Wish.
Upon death, an concept emerged into existence.
“When we lost Cody in November, I contacted Robin and told them we have to make Cody’s Wish come true,” said Jocelyn Russell.

At the Kentucky Horse Park.
“It’s all structured around individuals desiring an experience akin to Cody’s. For me, this involves depicting a horse standing on all four legs with its head lowered, which is quite a fixed posture; however, the message conveyed is incredibly potent,” explained Russell.
The design of the monument enables individuals using wheelchairs to easily approach and touch the bronze horse’s nose with their hands while gazing into its eyes.
To Russell, this idea is deeply individualistic.
“I was always acutely aware of the restrictions faced by individuals in wheelchairs when trying to access various locations, including places featuring fine art,” stated Russell.
This is not Russell’s inaugural sculpture in central Kentucky.
She is the talented artist behind the Secretariat sculpture in downtown Paris.

The nonprofit organization is assisting with fundraising efforts for this new initiative. She mentions that Russell really brings her artwork to life.
Robin Hutton mentioned, “She invests extensive effort into researching every single subject she tackles. This knowledge flows through her vision and mind before manifesting skillfully and intricately through her hands as stunning creations. You cannot help but be deeply moved by this work.”
That’s exactly what Kentucky Horse Park President Lee Carter aims for with every visitor who comes across the monument at the site—they hope people will have that same sensation.
“For us, it truly brings everything together, significantly aids in narrating their tale, and sheds light on the broader influence of horses on humans,” stated Lee Carter.
The monument will be placed in a highly conspicuous location within the Horse Park, just adjacent to the Hall of Champions along a major pathway.
“The idea of folks engaging directly with him seems quite distinctive,” stated Russell.
A significant spot for a notable Kentucky equine tale.
“We think there’s a unique bond between horses and humans,” stated Carter.
Right now,
Angels Without Wings
is attempting to gather $275,000 for finishing the monument.
Along with the sculpture, there will also be a wall displaying an iconic photograph of Cody Dorman and “Cody’s Wish.”
Two Hearts-One Spirit is set to be installed at the Kentucky Horse Park in October.
