On Friday, representatives from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) alongside officials at the Midland International Air & Space Port discussed the significance of the upcoming May 7 REAL ID enforcement date.
If you’re planning to catch a domestic flight, ensure you have a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license by Wednesday, May 7. This identification card must appear on your driving permit.
Documents bearing an expiry date qualify as REAL ID compliant. At the checkpoint, each passenger is required to show a genuine identification card. Scans or images do not meet the REAL ID standards. It’s important to remember that a REAL ID isn’t equivalent to a passport,” explained Patricia Mancha, who represents TSA. “Regardless of whether you exit the U.S., when reaching the point of entry back into the country, you will still require either a valid passport or another acceptable form of documentation.
Texas has reached 98 percent compliance with regard to REAL ID.
Nevertheless, within the United States, the nation stands at 81 percent compliance. Every state boasts its distinct design.
In Texas, the identification card features a gold star in the top right corner.
To obtain a REAL ID, visit your local Department of Motor Vehicles office.
For clarification,
Even past the deadline, if you don’t possess a REAL ID for your driver’s license, you can still travel domestically within the U.S. using a U.S. passport.
