LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) – Starting from May 7, travelers will be required to show a REAL ID when they board any domestic flights or enter specific federal facilities.
Lengthy queues have turned into a frequent scene at Department of Motor Vehicles offices due to numerous individuals seeking to acquire their REAL IDs. Nonetheless, pedestrian activity stays typical in Laredo.
Patricia Mancha from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) mentioned that 98% of Texans already possess a REAL ID. She explained, “The REAL ID serves as a method for confirming that travelers are indeed who they claim to be at the security checkpoints.”
To check if your ID meets the requirements, search for a star symbol in the top-right corner. Finding this indicates compliance.
During an interview at the Laredo International Airport, one local named Delia Espinoza mentioned that she meets the criteria for REAL ID compliance ahead of her journey to Las Vegas. She commented, “I believe this is great since it ensures everybody’s safety and it makes sense to put it into practice.”
As of May 7, individuals will be required to present a REAL ID when boarding any domestic flights or entering federal facilities.
Espinoza sees this requirement as an additional step for enhancing both safety and efficiency, noting, “This ensures protection for all passengers in the event that someone attempts to breach a flight.”
Mancha stresses that you can continue traveling without a REAL ID until May 7. She stated, “Individuals might opt for a passport, an ID issued by a federally recognized tribal government, or their Department of Defense ID instead.”
Furthermore, individuals who are younger than 18 years old are exempt from presenting a REAL ID. Mancha highlighted that this form of identification differs from a passport. “Should you travel outside the United States, you will still need to present a passport to re-enter the country as was previously necessary.”
She recommends staying calm if you haven’t obtained your REAL ID yet; alternatively, coordinate with your nearby DMV office.
