Located at the boot’s heel of Italy, this area has solidified its position on the budget airline route map – offering services to both Brindisi and Bari – as well as additional destinations.
Its mouthwatering cuisine, magnificent urban centers, and picturesque rural areas along with charming coastlines.
Although it has gained prominence in recent years, it has only lately emerged as a serious competitor to other well-loved destinations in the Mediterranean, like those found in Greece, Italy, and the Balearic Islands. This year alone, there has been an astounding 631 percent surge in online inquiries about it.
Opting to book a voyage during the shoulder season might be a smart choice—and the same advice applies to the other four locations featured on 212 Yachts’ roster of top-searched vacation spots.
The sunniest Croatian island, Hvar, has witnessed an increase in search interest based on the study, which analyzed the monthly worldwide search volume over the last year.
The charming island, favored by yacht enthusiasts, has seen an increase of 182 percent compared to last year. Additionally, a picturesque Greek destination — which typically commands higher costs — is also included on the ‘at risk of overtourism’ list.
The searches for Santorini, known for its iconic blue-domed churches, have gone up by 83 percent. Meanwhile, the interest in Spanish summer city breaks has surged with Barcelona experiencing a rise of 50 percent and San Sebastián seeing an increase of 56 percent respectively.
A representative from the company stated: “Year after year, we observe the same trend—individuals reserve their ideal location just to reach there and discover it overcrowded, overly expensive, or progressively more constrained.”
‘Overtourism doesn’t merely irritate travelers; it poses significant concerns for both local residents and the natural surroundings. For this year, consider exploring less frequented destinations that provide equally stunning experiences devoid of congestion.’
Where could you replace the top searched-for destinations to enjoy your vacation with fewer crowds?
The label recommends choosing the Cinque Terre area of Italy. Located at the western end of the Italian Riviera, this stunning coastal section lies nestled between Genoa and Pisa.
Cinque Terre (translated as The Five Lands) describes the five fishing villages clinging to a 15-mile stretch of craggy hillside above the Ligurian Sea.
Interestingly, Ibiza appears on the least-searched-for list — the White Isle saw a decrease of 56 percent in searches compared to the prior year.
According to the luxury yacht company, three other popular tourist spots also saw weaker search interest.
A city break destination like Venice might experience fewer crowds this summer. The Italian lagoon city has seen a decrease of 46 percent and has implemented new visitor taxes along with tourism limits as measures. This move aims to address the issue.
