South Fulton Celebrates 8th Anniversary as Mayor Khalid Kamau Delivers Emotional Farewell Address

The City of South Fulton commemorated its eighth year on Thursday evening with a ceremony that recognized recent accomplishments and signified a new chapter, as Mayor Khalid Kamau gave his last speech before stepping down, just weeks away.
following his announcement that he won’t run for another term.

The commemorative gathering at the Southwest Arts Center celebrated the city’s development and fortitude despite political strain. Both the mayor and City Manager Sharon Subadan pointed out significant achievements over the last year, such as advancements in the economy, enhancements in public security, and substantial developments in infrastructure.

Even though there have been some disagreements recently between the mayor and the city council, both officials stressed their commitment to moving forward. Mayor Kamau revealed that the city has acquired two plots of land intended for a new municipal courthouse complex and a permanent city hall. According to Mayor Kamau, these facilities will be situated near the heart of South Fulton.

The city has experienced substantial economic expansion, with revenues rising by over $165 million during the present leadership. According to Kamau, $63 million was allocated towards fixing roads and removing 32 dilapidated sites within the past four years. Moreover, criminal activity has decreased by 26%, and quicker reaction times from emergencies were achieved thanks to additional support for law enforcement and firefighting units.

“We encountered some difficulties, but we stayed dedicated,” stated Subadan.

The occasion, featuring live music, also highlighted achievements across all of the city’s neighborhoods. South Fulton seized this opportunity to foster a feeling of pride and cohesion.

Mayor Kamau reiterated his choice not to seek a second term, saying, “Being at the service of this city has been among the greatest privileges of my life.
