DAVENPOR, Iowa (KWQC)—A nearby refuge is striving to provide insight into the everyday challenges faced by homeless individuals via an interactive experience.
The tour hosted by Humility Homes & Services on Friday consisted of visiting three locations:
- the place where they rest their heads,
- The Corner Closet where they can purchase apparel,
- And a spot where they can grab something to eat.
This enables participants to grasp what is necessary for obtaining essential requirements,” stated Shelter CEO Ashley Velez.
Participants wear a backpack throughout the day to understand the experience of carrying all their possessions constantly, and they also listen to narratives from individuals who have experienced homelessness.
Event organizers anticipate that this experience will draw in additional volunteers and foster greater advocacy efforts, as well as assist in disseminating information about the accessible support options for individuals in need.
When you encounter someone outdoors with a sign, you’ll feel more empathy — you won’t just make an immediate judgment.
“We also discussed that if anyone spots somebody carrying a sign, they should hand out one of our business cards,” Velez mentioned.
On May 9th, they will be conducting another tour.
